Safety and Misuse

Safety

The use of Nitrous Oxide by a trained professional in an appropriate environment in a safe and controlled manner is perfectly safe. Other uses of nitrous oxide(this gas is sometimes referred to as laughing gas) have potentially serious dangers. Laughing gas is a balanced composition of approx. 70% nitrous oxideand 30% oxygen, whereas cream cannisters are 100% nitrous oxide. Inhaled, this pure gas can lead to asphyxiation due to the lack of oxygen. In the worst case this can result in death or long-term side-effects manifesting themselves as either physical or mental damage.

Safe use in the kitchen

Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions in regards to usage and disposal. Because these cartridges work under great pressure they should NOT be pierced. Recycle whenever possible. Cartridges should be kept in a cool place, preferably where there are not fluctuating temperatures, and away from any kitchen machinery which may produce heat, as cartridges and canisters may explode at temperatures of 50° Centigrade.

Misuse:

Because of the potential dangers of Nitrous Oxide misuse, we shall exercise our right to refuse sale to customers if we have any reason to believe that they intend to misuse the product. The sale of all of our products is strictly limited to customers over the age of 18. This policy is to protect against misuse and avoid harm.

Our Nitrous Oxide products are available solely for use in catering. We strongly advise that these products should not be inhaled for “recreational purposes”. Websites such as www.talktofrank.com will offer help and guidance if needed.

How misuse can affect you:

Nitrous Oxide has become popular as a recreational drug even though its effect is transitory. However, those that abuse the substance, should realise that its relative weakness does not equate to lower risk levels.

Brain damage – Because this is pure nitrous oxide and not mixed with a minimum of 20% of oxygen, it can result in brain damage as the oxygen levels in the blood supply are thereby reduced and this can result in hypoxia. In order to get the “high” that abusers crave, large quantities of nitrous oxide are frequently used, and the potential of irreversible brain damage can follow.

The nervous system– As an anaesthetic, Nitrous Oxideis effective under controlled use by a medical professional. But excessive use, or use over a longer period of time, can have serious effects on the nervous system resulting in damage to the vocal cords, bone marrow deterioration, and asphyxiation.

We appreciate you taking a moment to read our Safety and Misuse policy. All cream charger supplies are for catering use only and recreational use of the products is strictly prohibited.
